European Co-editions planned

The recognition of photography has grown immensely in the art market, fine art collections, the print media and on the internet. The need for profound information and clarification on all levels is increasing, in terms of market terminology, the current state of copyright laws, contacts to professionals or training and publication opportunities.

“Photoindex” is targeted towards collectors, gallery owners and curators, as well as artists and students. It includes both contributions and practical references to all essential aspects of the subject, supplemented by a selection of the most relevant addresses for each chapter. Whilst this volume follows a strict European perspective, further editions on the particularities on the American and Asian photography market are planned.

The focus of this book is the art market – its history, protagonists, concepts, definitions, as well as the current development of leading galleries and auction houses. It provides insights into the main private and corporate collections of photography. Furthermore, it covers the subjects of legislation, photography books, academic aspects as well as marketing and PR. It also includes information on festivals, fairs, grants and awards. Not least practical guidelines are given for collectors, estates, the preservation and restoration of photographs, their professional valuation and how to adequately present a portfolio.

The main authors of the photoindex are the editor, Bernd Fechner, and Simone Klein, both of whom have worked within the photography world for many years. Also involved as consultants and co-authors are prominent experts from many European countries.
